Disability Management Program
When an employee can't work due to a mental or physical impairment, a loss is felt by your entire team, but no one feels it greater than the affected employee. We believe the reason for this is simple — work is healthy. It's one of the principles that guide our renowned Disability Management Program and the reason our return-to-work rates are so much higher than the industry average.
Through our focus on ability and function, we will support your employees in finding the right way to return to work, stay at work, or avoid absences where possible. We believe the right solution for you should also be rewarding for your team.
We work collaboratively with your employees and their treatment professionals, employers, unions, and advisors to ensure rehabilitation and return-to-work programs are proactive and successful.
The right Disability Management Program can help your organization:
- improve productivity
- decrease absenteeism
- reduce replacement and training costs
- enhance job satisfaction
- improve company image — better reputation as an employer of choice
- improve recruitment, retention and competitiveness
- reduce health insurance claims
- reduce disability claims timelines — shorter injury and illness claims incidence and durations
Short Term Disability
When your employees are unable to work due to an accident or illness, our Short Term Disability benefit will help cover lost wages until they are able to return to work. To help ease the transition back into the workplace, we work with employers, employees and health care providers to ensure a return to work is done safely and appropriately.
Long Term Disability
When employees require a lengthier recovery time, our Long Term Disability benefit will help cover lost wages until employees are able to return to work or for a set time frame designated by you. To help ease the transition following a longer absence, we provide an excellent in-house Disability Management Program that will work with employers, employees, and health care providers to ensure a return to work is done safely and appropriately.
Long Term Disability Top-up
LTD Top-up is a unique benefit offered by Manitoba Blue Cross that is available to your employees if they are affected by a significant neurological or physical impairment to a degree that they are unable to perform two or more of the following activities of daily living:
We work with your team on prevention strategies, including monitoring organizational claim trends and coordinating client presentations. We make connections with our Employee Assistance Program professionals before an absence materializes and facilitate stay-at-work programs where possible.
Your employees can also access discounts on health services through our Blue Advantage program and online health-risk assessment and related resources through My Good Health.
We work with your employees and their treatment professionals to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment. As every case is different, we develop individually tailored capabilities and accommodated duties programs and refer your employees to local and trusted treatment providers. We provide you with your employees' functional abilities, restrictions and limitations and make recommendations for workplace accommodations.
We adjudicate claims and enforce provisions as per your policy plan text. Our seamless adjudication process involves completing employee and employer interviews, working with your team to ensure timely claim submission and corresponding directly with any treatment providers to obtain required information. We communicate all claims eligibility decisions with both you and your employees and allow for two levels of appeals.
We identify the barriers to employment and develop and coordinate individually tailored programs to suit the needs of your employees. We coordinate the provision of services including, but not limited to, medical services, physiotherapy, reconditioning and occupational therapy. Through our focus on function, we become familiar with the limitations and capabilities of your employees and assist them in returning to work where possible.
Return to Work
We work with you and your employees to develop return-to-work programs, which may include workplace accommodations, adaptive or ergonomic equipment, reconditioning, education, upgrading, treatment with targeted providers, modified duties, modified hours, gradual return-to-work programs and volunteer work. We provide you with your employees' functional abilities, restrictions and limitations and make recommendations for workplace accommodations.
Our Account Executives will work with you and/or your advisor to help review your existing plan design and provide recommendations towards the development of a benefits package geared towards the maximization of value. We offer various plan designs to help you contain costs while maximizing program success.
