President & Chief Executive Officer
As President and CEO of Manitoba Blue Cross, Shaun Lamoureux leads the development and execution of the company's strategic planning.
Shaun joined Manitoba Blue Cross in 2001. He held the positions of Controller and Assistant Vice President, Finance before being promoted to Vice President & Chief Financial Officer in 2009. The following year, his role expanded to Vice President, Chief Financial & Technology Officer. Shaun acted as Interim President & CEO for six months before being officially appointed to President & CEO in 2018.
With over 25 years of experience in the business sector, Shaun has a broad base of financial, risk management and leadership experience and has spent time working internationally in the United States. Prior to joining Manitoba Blue Cross, he held several positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, reporting to the Partners of Assurance and Business Advisory Services.
Shaun is a Chartered Professional Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba.
Vice President, Corporate Development
Pat Howe brings nearly two decades of senior management experience to Manitoba Blue Cross. As the former Director of Financial Planning and Decision Support for Medavie Blue Cross, Pat helmed a number of significant projects that led to the introduction of a new management reporting system, the implementation of a risk management framework and an improved internal audit regimen. He also participated in public offerings on TSX.
Prior to his role at Medavie Blue Cross, Pat was VP & Treasurer of Blue Cross Life Insurance Company of Canada. This was preceded by positions as Controller at both Cavendish Agri Services Ltd. and Humpty Dumpty Foods Ltd.
Pat is a professional accountant and holds a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant designation.
Vice President, Operations
Prior to her position as Assistant Vice President of Operations, Brenda spent over 18 years working in the claims department at Manitoba Blue Cross. She has also been instrumental in the development of the benefit services department, and in bringing privacy and fraud practices to our organization while acting as privacy officer.
Brenda has a Bachelor of Arts (Major Psychology) from the University of Manitoba, and a Certificate in Management and Administration from the Canadian Institute of Management at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Ian Altman
Executive Director, Employee Assistance Services
Dr. Ian Altman, Executive Director, Employee Assistance Services has been with Manitoba Blue Cross since 1996.
Before joining Manitoba Blue Cross, Dr. Altman was a clinical psychologist in Winnipeg at the Rehabilitation Hospital and the Knowles Centre. He received a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University, a Master's Degree in Psychosocial Science from Pennsylvania State University and a Doctorate from the University of Manitoba.
Manager, Corporate Communications
Lisa Bodnaruk brings more than a decade of marketing and communications experience to Manitoba Blue Cross. Prior to assuming her current role as Manager of Corporate Communications, Lisa was Assistant Manager of the department. She began her career with the organization in the Marketing Services Department, first as a Marketing Generalist and then as Acting Supervisor.
Before joining Manitoba Blue Cross in 2012, Lisa was Director of Marketing and Communications for Folklorama. This was preceded by marketing, communications and event planning positions at the Children's Wish Foundation, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and The Winnipeg Humane Society.
Lisa has a Creative Communications diploma (Major in Journalism) from Red River College and a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Major in Family Social Sciences) from the University of Manitoba.
Manager, Employee Assistance Centre
Frank Cantafio joined Manitoba Blue Cross in 2008 as Manager, Employee Assistance Services.
He is a registered Social Worker. Prior to joining Manitoba Blue Cross he worked, both as a clinician and senior manager, within a variety of EAP service models including the Government of Manitoba's Civil Service Commission, Corporate Health Consultants (large national EAP), and St. Boniface General Hospital EAP. He has also worked in private practice and in a diversity of settings from overseas in England and Japan to Northern First Nations communities.
Frank has completed a Master's Degree in Social Work (Clinical) from the University of Manitoba and the Queen's Executive Leadership Program and is a member of MIRSW/MASW.
Kiran Claire joined Manitoba Blue Cross in 2008 as Controller. Before becoming part of the Manitoba Blue Cross team she was assistant controller at Wawanesa Mutual and has also worked at Coopers and Lybrand.
Kiran received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba. She is also a Certified Insurance Professional with the Insurance Institute of Manitoba.
Manager, Corporate Resources
Karyn Crone, Manager, Corporate Resources, initially joined the Employee Assistance Centre in 1996 but went on to pursue a career in human resources. Following seven years working as an HR generalist and manager within the manufacturing industry, she returned to Manitoba Blue Cross in 2005, working exclusively in the Corporate Resources department.
Karyn holds both a Human Resources Management Certificate and a Certificate in Management from the University of Manitoba. She also has her Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation through the Human Resources Professional Association.
Manager, Underwriting & Agreement Services and Acting Manager, Project & Innovation Services
Heather Dennison began her career with Manitoba Blue Cross in 1987. The majority of her career has been spent in Group Underwriting with a steady advancement through the department. She assumed her current Underwriting role in 2014.
Heather assumed a dual manager role when she took on the duties of our Project & Innovation Services department effective August 2017.
Heather holds a Certificate in Management (CIM) designation from the University of Manitoba. She is also the employee-elected representative of the Manitoba Blue Cross pension committee.
Technology Services Leader
Mark Ensign began his career at Manitoba Blue Cross in 1990 as Programmer Analyst. He became Systems Architect in 2009 and Enterprise Architect in 2012.
He was recently promoted to Technology Services Leader where he will have overall responsibility for delivery of technology for MBC's internal systems across the areas of Architecture, Infrastructure, Application Support, Data, and Project Services.
Manager, Life & Disability Services
Chad Friesen started with Manitoba Blue Cross in April of 2005 as a Disability Case Manager. Since then, he has transitioned to Team Lead and Supervisor, Life & Disability. He is now Manager, Life & Disability.
Chad has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba, a QNET Certificate in Management Development and a FLMI LOMA designation. He is an active member of the Claims Association of Manitoba, and he is on the QNET Planning Conference Committee. In 2018, he presented at CLHIA's Claims and Anti-Fraud Conference.
In his current role, he is responsible for the overall planning, management and monitoring of the Life & Disability department and represents Manitoba Blue Cross in settlement discussions and litigated claims.
Manager, Data Systems
Murray Gehman is currently Manager, Data Systems, with Manitoba Blue Cross. He began working with the company in 1993 as a database administrator before assuming managerial duties in 2007 as Manager, Systems Development.
Prior to joining Manitoba Blue Cross, Murray worked at Great-West Life. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Business Computing from the University of Winnipeg. Additionally, Murray holds a CIM Honours from the Canadian Institute of Management.
Manager, Claims & Benefit Services
Heidi Gosselin, Manager, Claims & Benefit Services, began her career with Manitoba Blue Cross in 1987.
Over the course of her 26 years with the company, Heidi has worked in various departments, including Information Services, Accounting, and Benefit Services. Among her many contributions to Manitoba Blue Cross, Heidi has played a significant role in developing the company's Customer E-Service portal, various claims utilization reports, and its fraud investigation unit.
Heidi holds a Certified in Management (C.I.M.) designation from the University of Manitoba and has an advanced Business Administration diploma with an accounting major from Red River College. She has also participated in many professional development courses, including Principles of Life & Health Insurance, Legal Aspects of Life & Health Insurance, Accounting & Financial Reporting in Health Insurance Companies, amongst many others.
Manager, Customer Service
Shannon Granovsky is currently the Manager, Customer Service with Manitoba Blue Cross. She started her career with the organization in 1986.
Shannon was recently awarded 2011 Manager of the Year by the Manitoba Contact Centre Association. She has completed the Certified in Management (CIM) program at the University of Manitoba. Shannon is also an active member of the Manitoba Contact Centre Association.
Manager, Products & Individual Distribution
Gene Holman brings a wealth of experience in product development and sales to his role as Manager of Products & Individual Distribution at Manitoba Blue Cross. Prior to this role, he was a senior manager at Alberta Blue Cross, responsible for all aspects of individual product sales, marketing and distribution. Gene began his 29-year-long career at Alberta Blue Cross as sales manager of group sales, which included branch operations and customer services.
Gene began his working career in the automotive aftermarket parts industry where he was employed in territory sales, product marketing and sales management roles. Before entering the health benefits industry, he was the regional manager for a major manufacturer of automotive electrical parts.
Case Management Services Leader
Christine Prociuk is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with over 22 years of case management experience in both the public and private sectors.
Christine is currently responsible for long-term and strategic planning and partnerships within the Life & Disability claims area. She manages the Travel Claims department and is our Corporate Privacy Officer. Prior to leading the Case Management Services department (2014-2018), she spent 13 years as Supervisor of Life & Disability.
Before joining Manitoba Blue Cross, Christine acquired valuable case management experience through her positions as Case Coordinator for Employment and Income Assistance and Child Protection Worker for Dakota Ojibway Child & Family Services.
In addition to being an RPN, Christine holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Certificate in Management and Administration. Christine is the current Chair of the Investigations Committee for the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba and has held a variety of board positions in industry and not-for-profit organizations.
Manager, Support Services
Tony Rogerson is currently Manager, Support Services, with Manitoba Blue Cross. He began working with the company in 2003 as a Network Analyst. He has held a series of positions including Security Specialist and Team Lead, Infrastructure, before assuming his current role, where he is responsible for leading the team that supports all MBC infrastructure technology. Tony has completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba, and Letters of Accomplishment in Supervisory Management from University of Manitoba, Continuing Education.
Shared Services Business Unit Leader
Brian Rosenberg brings more than 20 years of successful solution strategy, delivery and management experience in the IT industry to his new role as Shared Services Business Unit Leader at Manitoba Blue Cross.
In his previous role as Corporate IT Manager for the City of Winnipeg, Brian oversaw a team of more than 100 staff responsible for all common and shared IT services. Prior to this, he was a Business Unit Executive with IBM Canada, where he was responsible for the general management of an IT consulting and professional services business unit across Canada.
Brian has both a Bachelor of Science (Major in Business Computing) and Bachelor of Arts (Major in Psychology) Degree from the University of Winnipeg.
Jeff Strong comes to Manitoba Blue Cross with significant actuarial experience. Jeff has worked in risk management at the Canadian Wheat Board and held roles in pricing, expense management, and asset liability management at Great-West Life Assurance Company.
Jeff has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree from the I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. He is also a part-time lecturer of actuarial mathematics at the I.H. Asper School of Business. Jeff has acquired his Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and his Fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA).
Manager, Client Administration
Shirley Taylor, Manager, Client Administration joined Manitoba Blue Cross in 2003 as senior financial analyst. Since 2007 she has provided her leadership talents to the client administration department, as project manager and in her current role as manager.
Prior to joining the Manitoba Blue Cross team, Shirley worked at Manitoba Public Insurance and at Great-West Life. She is a Certified General Accountant and has a Business Administration diploma from Red River College.
J. David Tompkins
Manager, Group & Individual Client Development
With over 21 years of sales, sales management and account management experience in group benefit and pension plans, David Tompkins has been with Manitoba Blue Cross since 2009 as Manager, Group and Individual Client Development.
Prior to joining the Manitoba Blue Cross team, David was group sales manager at London Life Insurance Company and account executive with Sun Life Financial. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of British Columbia. He has also received a Group Benefits Associate, Retirement Plans Associate and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist from International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) and Dalhousie University; and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Fellowship from IFEBP and The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. David has been very active over the years with the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute, serving as the chairperson of the Manitoba Council of CPBI and as a past member of CPBI's National Board of Directors.
